Aldi has urgently recalled a table sauce warning customers not to eat it. Anyone who has bought the Bramwells Tartare Sauce can return it to the store for a full refund.
The budget chain said it was recalling the sauce, which is generally served with fish, as it was incorrectly labelled. A safety warning issued by the Food Standards Agency said: "ALDI is recalling Bramwells Tartare Sauce because it contains sulphites which is not mentioned on the label.
"Due to mis-packing, Bramwells Tartare Sauce labels have been incorrectly applied to Bramwells Horseradish Sauce. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites."
The affected sauces have product codes of 73685 and 40691. They are the 175g pack size with a batch code of 2118. They are best before April 2023.
The FSA added advice to customers. It said: "If you have bought the above product and have a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."
Aldi said on its recall notice: "As a precautionary measure our supplier is recalling an isolated batch of Bramwells Tartare Sauce because it may contain undeclared sulphites. Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.
"We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation." It added for further information customers should visit www.aldi.co.uk or contact https://customerservice.aldi.co.uk/contact
