Aldi has been announced as the cheapest supermarket in August by consumer champion, Which? It compared a basket of 49 popular grocery items last month and found Aldi's would have cost shoppers £76.24.
This was £1.66 cheaper than the Lidl basket and a huge £25.96 cheaper than at Waitrose. The products which were compared included Heinz baked beans, tea bags and milk.
Which? published its findings today (Tuesday, September 6). The price of baskets from each of the eight supermarkets is below

Which? also looked at 153 items sold from the six 'traditional' supermarkets - the original 49 plus 104 more. It found that shoppers could save almost £50 from a larger shopping trolley trip to Asda compared to Waitrose
This trolley included a larger number of branded items, such as Andrex toilet paper and Cathedral City cheese. You can’t always find these items in discounter supermarkets, so Aldi or Lidl aren't included in this Which? comparison.
