Aldi, ASDA, Tesco, M&S, Lidl and Morrisons Bank Holiday Tuesday 2022 opening and closing times

Christmas has been and gone and with it, many families will need to visit the supermarkets to restock their supplies after a day of overeating.

After being shut on Christmas Day shoppers flocked to supermarkets such as Asda, Tesco and Morrisons on Boxing Day. There are also be some bargains to be had as Christmas stock is reduced to clear and the sales begin.

However, while some of the big supermarkets were open on Boxing Day others did not open their doors.

Opening times on Tuesday will also be different to normal as Christmas Day this year fell on a weekend meaning it is a Bank Holiday.

With all that in mind here are all the opening hours for all the main supermarkets over the next few days including Aldi, ASDA, Tesco, M&S, Lidl, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Booths.

Aldi

Below are the store times given by Aldi, however opening times may vary by location. Use the store finder to find your local store.

  • Tuesday 27 December: 8am - 8pm
  • Wednesday 28 December: 8am - 8pm
  • Thursday 29 December: 8am - 8pm
  • Friday 30 December: 8am - 8pm
  • Saturday 31 December: 8am - 6pm
  • Sunday 1 January: CLOSED
  • Monday 2 January: 8am - 8pm
  • Tuesday 3 January: 8am - 10pm

ASDA

Asda's opening hours will change over Christmas (Chris Radburn/PA Wire)

Opening times depend on the branch you visit, so it's a good idea to consult the store locator before planning your shopping. Below are the hours for ASDA Eastlands and ASDA Trafford Park in Greater Manchester as a guide of superstore opening and closing times over the festive period.

  • Tuesday 27 December: 8am - 8pm
  • Wednesday 28 December: Open 24 hours
  • Thursday 29 December: Open 24 hours
  • Friday 30 December: Open 24 hours
  • Saturday 31 December: 12am - 7pm
  • Sunday 1 January: 11am - 5pm (10.30am - 4.30pm at Trafford Park)
  • Monday 2 January: 8am - 8pm
  • Tuesday 3 January: Open 24 hours

Below are the opening hours for Asda Harpurhey which is not open 24 hours.

  • Tuesday 27 December: 8am - 8pm
  • Wednesday 28 December: 7am - 10pm
  • Thursday 29 December: 7am - 10pm
  • Friday 30 December: 7am - 10pm
  • Saturday 31 December: 7am - 7pm
  • Sunday 1 January: 10am - 4pm
  • Monday 2 January: 8am - 8pm
  • Tuesday 3 January: 7am - 10pm

Tesco

Hours during the festive period will vary depending on the store. Most larger stores will be open from 9am to 6pm on Boxing Day. To check the exact opening hours of your local Tesco use the store finder.

Here are the festive hours for Tesco Extra Horwich and Tesco Extra Failsworth for reference.

  • Tuesday 27 December: 9am - 6pm (8am - 6pm at Failsworth)
  • Saturday 31 December: 6am - 6pm
  • Sunday 1 January: 11am - 5pm

M&S

Marks and Spencer was another retailer which will have all its stores closed on Boxing Day.

M&S stores director Helen Milford said: “Our teams really step up over the festive period to help make Christmas special for our customers, including working extra hours so we can keep our store doors open for longer.”

“It’s a busy time for retail so giving our colleagues Boxing Day off is a small thank you for their hard work delivering a remarkable Christmas for our customers.”

M&S store opening times on the Bank Holiday will vary from store to store, and you can find yours using the store finder here.

Lidl

Lidl will be closed on Boxing Day (Derby Telegraph)

Opening hours will depend on the store you visit, so it is worth checking the Lidl store finder to see when your local supermarket is open. All Lidl stores will however be closed on Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

For reference here are the hours for Lidl Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester:

  • Tuesday 27 December: 8am - 10pm
  • Wednesday 28 December: 8am - 10pm
  • Thursday 29 December: 8am - 10pm
  • Friday 30 December: 8am - 10pm
  • Saturday 31 December: 8am - 7pm
  • Sunday 1 January: CLOSED
  • Monday 2 January: 8am - 8pm
  • Tuesday 3 January: 8am - 10pm

Morrisons

Opening times depend on the branch you visit, so it's a good idea to consult the store locator before planning your shopping. Most will be open between 9am to 6pm on Boxing Day.

  • Tuesday 27 December: 6am - 10pm (11pm for Chorlton)
  • Wednesday 28 December: 6am - 10pm (11pm for Chorlton)
  • Thursday 29 December: 6am - 10pm (11pm for Chorlton)
  • Friday 30 December: 7am - 9pm
  • Saturday 31 December: 7am - 7pm
  • Sunday 1 January: 10am - 4pm

Sainsbury's

On December 27, the majority of supermarkets are open from 8am to 8pm and convenience stores will open as normal. Opening hours will vary by store.

On the December 28, 29 and 30 most supermarkets and convenience stores will trade their normal hours for these days.

On New Year’s Eve, the majority of supermarkets will be open from 7am to 7pm and convenience stores will close at 9pm. On New Year's Day, the majority of supermarkets will be open between 10am and 4pm (normal Sunday trading hours). Convenience stores will be open between 9am & 9pm.

Iceland

Like Aldi and Lidl, Iceland will also have all its stores closed on Boxing Day.

As a reference here are the hours for Iceland in Ashton, Tameside. Hours will vary from store to store. You can find yours using the Iceland store locator.

  • Tuesday 27 December: 8am - 6pm
  • Wednesday 28 December: 8am - 6pm
  • Thursday 29 December: 8am - 6pm
  • Friday 30 December: 8am - 6pm
  • Saturday 31 December: 8am - 5pm
  • Sunday 1 January: 10am - 4pm
  • Monday 2 January: 8am - 6pm

Waitrose

On Boxing Day, stores will be closed with the exception of those in Welcome Break motorway service stations and Shell forecourts – some of which will be open 24 hours. On New Year's Day, Waitroise shops will be closed, with the exception of a small number which will have varying opening hours between 7am and 10pm.

Booths

All Booths stores will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
