Adelaide man admits to COVID-19 medi-hotel drug smuggle attempt in food delivery

An Adelaide man has admitted to attempting to traffic drugs concealed in food delivery bags into a medi-hotel during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Raman Sharma pleaded guilty in the Adelaide Magistrates Court to possessing opium and heroin intending to supply those drugs to another person in October last year.

At the time, police said the 29-year-old went to the Adelaide hotel carrying two food delivery bags, claiming he was there to deliver food to people quarantining at the hotel.

Police said there were no receipts or details attached to the bags, and when they were searched, small amounts of heroin and other drugs were found.

The matter returns to court next month.

Sharma is expected to be released on bail later today.
