Actor-turned-activist Sonia Mann turning into feminine face of farmer protest at Delhi borders

BATHINDA: Actor-turned-activist Sonia Mann, who has acted in Bollywood, Pollywood and South Indian film industries, has been seen as a feminine face of the ongoing farmer struggle against contentious farm laws.

She has been seen at the protests not only at the borders of Delhi but at various protests against Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in Haryana and panchayats in Punjab.

FARMER PROTEST LIVE

She has been living at Tikri border for the last nearly seven months.

She also runs a charitable trust Mai Bhago charity.

Sonia Mann was booked in Chandigarh on June 26 when farmers had headed towards Raj Bhawans to hand over memorandums to governors.

She is now with Kirti Kisan Union and getting popular among youths.

“I am the daughter of Punjab for being daughter of communist activist Baldev Mann, who was killed by extremists. My father stood for communal amity, social change and wanted me to do the same. Now I am leading the Kirti Kisan Union and will make my father proud by standing ahead for farmers fearlessly,” said Mann while taking part in Kisan Sansad at Jantar Mantar on Thursday.

She said, “It is Parliament that had passed these laws and the parliamentarians are the ones who must take the responsibility to repeal them."

"Protest is our right, no one can stop us from it and we will do it peacefully by sitting outside at Jantar Mantar. There had been no progress in terms of talks with the government since the last round ended six months ago on January 22. After all the threat calls I decided not to stop as I want to be committed to farmer’s cause. I cannot take a step back just because the police filed an FIR against me," she added.
