Aaron Rodgers admits supporting Premier League rival before switching to Manchester City

NFL star and Super Bowl winner Aaron Rodgers has committed a cardinal sin for football fans by switching his allegiance after being sent free 'swag' by Manchester City.

The 38-year-old alluded to being a previous Steven Gerrard and Liverpool fan, but says for the last seven years he has supported Man City. He appeared on the Pat McAfee Show wearing a Man City shirt ahead of the Green Bay Packers game against the New York Giants at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

When asked if he has always been a Man City fan? The NFL legend replied: "I have not. I switch allegiance maybe seven or eight years ago.

"I was a fan of this other team that plays in the Premier League and specifically one player who ended up coaching in the Premier League after other stops and played for LA Galaxy.

"And then Man City started reaching out, sending me a bunch of swag (merchandise). I said you know what all the players I grew up watching on that other team are gone so I'm going to start pulling for Man City and they haven't let me down."

The show host replied: "Man City chose you. Sometimes your team team finds you and it feels like Man City did that with you."

Gerrard left Liverpool after a 26-year run signing for LA Galaxy in 2015 and it seems that Rodgers switched allegiance to City at the same time, with City winning four Premier League titles since.

Gerrard is now a Premier League manager with Aston Villa and Rodgers alluded to being a fan of his. On the field Rodgers has won the award for NFL Most Valuable Player for two of the last three years and led the Green Bay Packers to Super Bowl Glory in 2010.

Of course talk about Manchester City also included Erling Haaland and the upcoming World Cup.

Host McAfee added: "He's like the best player on Earth I guess. We were thinking of betting on him for the World Cup, he's from Norway so they're not going to win. United States are going to win."
