Inflation in the cost of daily essentials and severe constraints on the supply chain have impacted many Americans’ pockets.
For one family in Kennedale, Texas, who buys 12 gallons of milk a week, they have experienced an increase in the amount of money spent.
In a recent CNN video segment, reporter Brian McMorris-Santoro accompanied the Stotler family to a grocery store to see how inflation hurts consumers.
Within the video, the family said that they were eating less healthily than they would like because the prices have increased the most as they do their best to shop for sales.
“A gallon of milk was $1.99.Now it’s $2.79. When you buy 12 gallons a week times four weeks, that’s a lot of money,” said the mom Krista Stotler.
Krista, alongside her husband Larry, also told McMorris-Santoro that they have nine children in their house; some are biological, adopted and fostered, which might potentially explain the purchase of large quantities of milk.

Still, people on Twitter wondered why the family decided to showcase the amount of milk, with some joking that they should just buy a “cow.”
If your family is drinking 12 gallons of milk per week… maybe it’s time to cutback? Or just buy a cow?

I'd feel insane putting a 3rd gallon in the cart, who is consuming a dozen gallons of milk a week? Does he run a restaurant?

But others were quick to point out why we shouldn’t diminish the family’s feelings.

“We shouldn’t diminish what this family is feeling. I am just confused, if they are a typical middle-class American family should be getting $200-$300 per kid in child tax credit. With 7 children that is $1400 to $2100 per month,” one wrote.
“Instead of making jokes about milk we should make the case to the Stotlers that we passed a $300/per child/month tax credit that both of their Republican senators voted against,” another added.
McMorris Santoro also took to his Twitter to address some of the people poking fun at the family and wrote: “Truly remarkable number of a**holes on here attempting to dunk on a charming family who lays out how it feels to shop with price rises. Very wise and cool tweets. Glad you’re all weathering the economy so well!”
According to The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), average retail prices for milk are $3.69 per gallon for conventional whole milk, $3.65 per gallon for traditional reduced fat 2 per cent milk, $4.21 per half-gallon organic whole milk, and $4.20 per half-gallon organic reduced fat 2 per cent milk.
