A resurfaced clip sheds light on Aaron Glenn’s coaching philosophy

An old clip of New Orleans Saints coaching candidate, Aaron Glenn, on The Pivot Podcast has resurfaced as Glenn has become one of the hottest coaching candidates on the market. In the clip, Glenn explains to the Pivot crew his coaching philosophy.

“Coaches over here and players over there. That’s not what we are,” Glenn said, reflecting on his interactions with different players and realized most teams aren’t operated with this mentality.

Glenn told a story of inviting former Detroit Lions defensive back Tracy Walker over to his house to watch film. Walker told Glenn he’d never been able to do this with another coach.

That confused Glenn because, “As a player, I would love to sit down with my coach and sit there and pick his brain,” while watching film. The high level of investment in players is a representation of Glenn’s foundation as a coach and what possibly created this foundation.

Glenn is an NFL veteran. He spent 15 years in the league as a player before retiring and turning to coaching. That’s why he’s able to say what he would like “as a player” without speculation. He opened the clip by saying, “In today’s coaching, you have to be relatable,” and that’s something that has eluded other coaches like Dennis Allen.

Glenn knows what’s important, and his experience as a player gives him instant relatability.
