Since the beginning of the latest Israeli ground operation in the Jabalya refugee camp in northern Gaza nine days ago, approximately 300 people have lost their lives, according to the Gaza Government Media Office. The ongoing heavy fighting has hindered emergency workers from recovering dozens of bodies, resulting in decomposing remains scattered throughout the streets and buildings.
The Israeli military reentered Jabalya citing the presence of terrorists and terror infrastructure in the area. This marks the third ground operation by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the camp.
Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital, expressed the overwhelming situation faced by medical teams as a high number of casualties continue to arrive amidst the intense conflict. The camp is now completely besieged, making it challenging to bring in essential health supplies, food, and specialized medical teams.
Abu Safiya highlighted the hospital's limited fuel reserves, which were replenished after a delayed delivery by Israel. The hospital currently has fuel for only 10 days, putting it at risk of running out of electricity.
The IDF reportedly urged locals to evacuate the area, although many residents deemed it too perilous to attempt to leave.
