Times are hard. The cost of living is the highest it has been for years, people are struggling to heat their homes, and we’ve all just lived through one of the biggest disruptions to our lives in history.
So in times like these, the simple pleasures are even more important - simple pleasures like thoroughly discounted Easter eggs . But shoppers are fuming today as several major supermarkets have failed to reduce the price of their Easter chocolate.
Hannah popped into her local Tesco and witnessed “pure disappointment” from eager customers excited to bag some cheap treats. She took to Twitter to share the news, calling it “2022 personified”.

“Tesco didn’t have any discounted Easter eggs I feel betrayed,” another user tweeted.
Other shops are guilty, too. Another shopper found eggs still being sold at full price in Poundland, which he dubbed “terrible prices”. Another user tweeted “Where’s all the discounted Easter eggs this year, haven’t seen any”.
It isn’t just eggs that are staying firmly at full price. Sarah tried to grab a bargain on the festive favourite Malteser bunnies - but found they hadn’t budged in price in Waitrose.
“Malteser bunnies £1 each in Waitrose yesterday. No offer or discount. *Before* Easter I swear they were 2 for £1.20,” she tweeted.
A Waitrose spokesperson said all remaining stock has been discounted by 50 per cent, and added that they had seen an 'eggstraordinary' demand for eggs this year, meaning stocks are very low.
Even those who have been lucky enough to find a reduced egg have noticed a change in prices - one shopper said “Inflation has truly hit. Even the discounted Easter eggs were £1.75 instead of like 50p. I’m devastated.”
Tesco and Poundland did not respond to the MEN's request for comment.
