1,828 new Covid cases, 35 more deaths

There were 35 more Covid-19 fatalities and 1,828 new cases admitted to hospitals on Monday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Tuesday.

This compared with 32 coronavirus-related fatalities and 1,740 cases admitted to hospitals on Sunday, as reported on Monday.

As of midnight Monday, a total of 23,605 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 23,985 the previous day), including 11,711 in hospitals (down from 11,993). Among the remainder, 288 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (up from 285) and 11,562 in home/community isolation (down from 11,663).

Of those in hospital, 903 were seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 890) and 440 dependent on ventilators (up from 425).

The 24-hour period also saw 2,173 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

All the 1,828 new cases admitted to hospitals over the 24 hours were cases in the general population.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,579,421 Covid-19 cases, including 2,355,986 this year, with 4,524,592 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 31,224 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 9,526 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 521,275 in 24 hours to 575.88 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,071 to 6.40 million.

The United States had the most cases at 92.34 million, up 52,830, and the most deaths at 1.05 million, up 117.
