As a storm approaches, ZooTampa is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its diverse animal residents. The menagerie, which includes wolves, skunks, turtles, frogs, and various other creatures, is being secured within the zoo premises.
The zoo staff is diligently preparing by securing loose items, stocking up on food supplies for the animals, trimming trees, and fueling generators. These precautions are part of the zoo's comprehensive hurricane preparedness plan.
Within the next 24 hours, larger animals will be moved into their night houses, specially designed to withstand major storms. Smaller mammals and birds will be relocated to ancillary buildings for their safety.
During the storm, a dedicated team comprising animal care, animal health, safety, maintenance, and horticulture professionals will remain on-site. Their responsibilities include caring for the animals, monitoring life support systems, managing generators, and assessing any potential damage.
Due to these preparations, the zoo will be closed to visitors from Tuesday through Thursday to ensure the safety of both the animals and the staff.
ZooTampa's proactive approach to animal welfare during severe weather conditions serves as a testament to their commitment to providing a secure and nurturing environment for all their inhabitants.
