Zooey Deschanel's pink chairs have us reconsidering the ever-popular shade – and we found lookalikes for under $90

Zooey Deschanel.

Thought Barbie fever had finally broken? Think again. After seeing some chic, pink furnishings in 500 Days of Summer and New Girl star Zooey Deschanel's home, we are reconsidering the color that hit a high last summer.

If you are doubtful, look no further than the actor's latest Instagram post, in which we see her otherwise neutral living area flanked by gold-legged, pink velvet chairs, neatly arranged around a table. The color's feminine undertones instantly give the space some vibrancy, while the gold legs elevate the area. It's a combination that has us brainstorming new ways to decorate with pink.

Experts say that pink goes beyond interior design trends because it's highly customizable thanks to its shade range. 'Pink is a really enduring color, one that can either make or statement or allow a space to sing,' says Avalana Simpson. creative director at Avalana Design. 'Bubblegum pinks enjoyed their moment on the catwalk and still look great today, subtle dusky shades became the new neutral and Barbiecore brought back hot pink to the fore. However, you don’t have to feel confined by the newest pink trend.'

According to Simpson, shade selection should be considered based on the room where it is placed, as can be seen in Deschanel's pink living room. She says: 'Allow yourself to be drawn to your perfect pink hue whether it's soft and subtle or loud and proud and make it the focal point of your interior space. This will help you to build and layer your scheme around. People look to warmer tones and less overpowering shades to create cozy sanctuaries in bathrooms and dining spaces. Rich pinks and berry magentas really help to make spaces pop and work in harmony with deeper colors such as plum and indigo.'

She continues, 'For me, hot pink evokes joy and optimism in the home and is great for those areas where you need to feel a connection to your space such as an office or bedroom or where you want to create a statement.' This pink room idea works especially well in a communal space like Deschanel's, where there are likely gatherings taking place.

Simpson also says that Deschanel's choice to accent her pink furnishings with gold is a wonderful way to make the look palatable. 'My favorite complementary hue for pink is gold or copper,' she states. 'Pinks flecked with these shimmering metals on walls, fabrics, and tactile pieces such as lamps and tableware offer a super luxurious hotel vibe with added romance. Gold enhances pink, making rich pinks stand out and more pastel shades offer softness for the eye. It’s playful and fun but done well, this power couple can create the ultimate sophisticated palette.'

Gold is the perfect color that goes with pink. Simpson continues, 'Both pink and gold have warm undertones which help them blend together effortlessly. Even shades of pink with cooler undertones such as blush or more lilac pinks are complemented by the warmth of gold.'

Below, we have found a lookalike for Deschanel's chair (only $89.99 at Walmart), along with a couple of other pink and gold accessories.
