"I say goodbye to football but not to you," Ibrahimovic told the crowd after Milan's 3-1 over Hellas Verona.
Ibrahimovic leaves Milan a Rossoneri legend after helping win the Scudetto for the first time in eleven years last season.
The enigmatic striker began his career his career with Malmo 24 years ago and enjoyed fruitful spells at Ajax, Juventus and Inter Milan during the early portion of his career.
He joined Barcelona in 2010 and famously clashed with Barcelona over the course of his lone season at the Camp Nou before moving to AC Milan in 2010.
A four-year spell at Paris Saint Germain followed, during which time he became PSG's all-time top scorer and left the club with a remarkable record of 156 goals in 180 games.
An 18-month spell at Manchester United saw the Swede win both the League Cup and Europa League, but his spell at United was curtailed following a devastating knee injury.
After a brief stint in the MLS with LA Galaxy, Zlatan re-joined AC Milan and was a key figure as the club regained their status at the top table of Italian football.
He injured his ACL at the end of the 21/22 season, an injury that ruled him out until February of this year.
In March, Ibrahimovic netted the 511th and final club goal of his career as he became the oldest scorer in Serie A history.
