Zidane Iqbal and three other players who need to leave Manchester United before deadline day

Concentration will be focused on who Manchester United may bring in before deadline day but a number of players could be going the other way.

Alex Telles, Alvaro Fernandez and Eric Bailly have already left on loans but Erik ten Hag confirmed on Friday that outcasts Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones and Brandon Williams will be staying. James Garner, meanwhile, has been transfer listed and has attracted a lot of attention from Premier League rivals.

He is expected to leave permanently rather than on loan if he does exit, but a number of other youngsters could leave on loan before the end of Thursday. United’s upcoming generation look very promising and a temporary move away for first-team action may aid their development.

Here are four players who could seek an exit before the end of the window:

Zidane Iqbal

The midfielder had a terrific pre-season, and was arguably the best-performing academy star on the club’s pre-season tour. His link up excited fans, who have high hopes for his United career.

In the meantime, he could benefit from a switch away. The arrival of Casemiro further slims his chances of game time as he slips down a peg in the midfield pecking order so some first team action in lower leagues may be the next best step.

Charlie Savage

Like Iqbal, Savage had a very promising pre-season. Both made their senior debuts in the Champions League last year and have progressed well since.

However, Savage may be considered below Iqbal in the selection order and so must make a decision about whether to stay in the academy or seek more first-team minutes elsewhere. The 19-year-old has a bright future but doesn’t want to be turning 20 with just a single minute of competitive senior action to his name.

Hannibal Mejbri

The teenager already has considerable experience at international level with Tunisia having racked up 16 caps at 19. But he must not let that get to his head and turn down an opportunity away from United.

His two outings last season were boisterous but erratic and it’s clear he has a lot to hone before thinking about regular game time at Old Trafford. He needn’t drop down too low though, a season in the Championship would suit him well.

Amad Diallo

Amad had a turbulent first half of his loan spell at Rangers following his January move but enjoyed more game time towards the end of the season. He didn’t play a minute in the club’s journey to the Europa League final but started the Scottish Cup final win.

He had a mixed pre-season which ended strongly with goals against Wrexham and Real Vallecano. United must decide whether to integrate him into first team plans or send him out on another loan, the latter of which seems more likely and perhaps beneficial.
