Zendaya’s celebrity stylist deliberately made her look exactly like other stars at the start of her career to get her more media coverage.
The ‘Euphoria’ actress, 28, has spent years working with Law Roach, 46, and he has now revealed he started their working relationship on a mission to get her into US Weekly’s ‘Who Wore It Best’ poll, which shows two celebrities wearing the same outfit side by side with an invitation to readers to vote on which they liked more.
He told the New Yorker: “I figured out that whoever got the most press got the best dresses, so I was, like, I need to get her more press.”
Law added he wasn’t afraid of her potentially losing the Us Weekly poll he aimed to get her exposure in – saying: “Because I know she’s going to win a battle.”
But Law has said he struggled to get luxury brands to work with the actress, who started her career on the Disney channel, as they didn’t think she could market their pricey clothes to a wide enough audience.
He added on ‘The Cutting Room Floor’ podcast Chanel, Saint Laurent, Dior, Gucci and Valentino all refused to work with her.
It led to him forming a rule for whenever a brand turned the two of them down, they would never be able to again, with the stylist declaring: “If it’s a no now, it’s a no forever.”
Law told Vogue in February Zendaya was largely dressed in vintage pieces when they first started working together because that was all that was available to them.
He added: “We’ve been (pulling vintage) since Zendaya and I began working together, for 13 years now.
“At first, it came out of necessity because back when we started, nobody would lend her clothes.
“And I come from vintage – I had a vintage store in Chicago – so a lot of the things that she wore were things from my store or vintage pieces.”
