Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to visit Washington next Thursday for crucial talks with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Zelenskyy is expected to push for the U.S. to allow Ukraine to use Western-provided weapons to strike deeper into Russia.

President Biden expressed his anticipation for the meeting, stating that he will reaffirm America's commitment to supporting Ukraine in defending its freedom and independence during Zelenskyy's visit.

However, the Biden administration remains cautious about granting Ukraine the authority to launch long-range missiles deeper into Russia. U.S. officials are seeking more detailed information from Kyiv on how they plan to use the weapons and how it aligns with the broader strategy for the ongoing conflict.

There are concerns within the administration that loosening restrictions on long-range weaponry could have limited impact and pose significant risks. Russian President Vladimir Putin has already issued warnings that allowing Ukraine to use such weapons could escalate tensions.

U.S. defense officials argue that Ukraine's current use of long-range drones to target areas in Russia has been effective, despite the limited number of long-range missiles available.

During his visit, Zelenskyy will also hold a separate meeting with Vice President Harris, who has been actively engaged in discussions regarding the conflict. The meeting comes as speculation grows about Harris potentially succeeding Biden in the future.

Former President Donald Trump has weighed in on the situation, suggesting that he would seek to end the war swiftly if reelected. His running mate, Sen. JD Vance, outlined a plan that includes establishing a demilitarized zone and Ukraine agreeing not to reclaim occupied territories or join NATO.
