Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a speech at the 61st Munich Security Conference on February 15 and stated that Europe needs a united army in order to beat Russia, and questioned the allyship of the United States.
“Some in Europe may not understand what is happening in Washington right now.
“We must give strength to Europe first. Do we need the US?
“As trading markets, yes, as an ally, I don’t know.”

Zelensky urged Europe to have “a single voice and not a dozen different ones,” in his speech.
“Europe needs to speak with one voice.
Zelensky also mentioned US Vice President JD Vance, who was also present at the conference and made comments accusing European leaders of suppressing free speech and failing to control mass immigration.
In Vance’s speech, he described US President Donald Trump as “the new sheriff in town,” and ended his speech with scattered applause from the audience.
“Just yesterday, here in Munich, the US Vice President made it clear,” Zelensky said.
“The old relationship between Europe and America is ending, and Europe needs to adjust to that.
“I believe in Europe. And I’m sure you believe too. And I urge you to act for your own sake.
“Right now, Ukraine’s army, supported by foreign aid – thank you so much – is holding back Russia. But if not us, then who will stop them?”

Zelensky also made comments directed towards Trump and his administration, expressing doubts of US allyship.
“If the Americans decide to go their way, decreasing their presence, it’s not good.
“Of course, it’s very dangerous. But we all, in Europe, need to be ready.
“Once again: Europe needs its own armed forces. This isn’t about replacing the [NATO] alliance.
“Ukraine will never accept deals made behind our backs without our involvement.”
“And the same rule should apply to all of Europe. No decisions about Ukraine without Ukraine. No decisions about Europe without Europe.”
Zelensky ended his speech asking to keep “the pressure on Russia,” and described Russian leader Vladimir Putin as a “liar”.
“Peace for Ukraine, peace for Europe, peace for the world and for your families.”
His speech was met with a standing ovation by the crowd.
