Just like before, you’ll need a horse if you want to efficiently travel Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The world is more massive than before, and although you have more traversal options this time, a horse is still the most reliable – not to mention the cutest.
We’ll break down how to tame horses in Tears of the Kingdom and register them at stables so you can call them back to your side whenever you need them.
If you want to know where to get other key items in the game, then check out how to get the Paraglider, or our guides for the Ukuoh Shrine, Gutanbac Shrine, or In-isa Shrine.
How to tame a horse – Zelda TotK
The quickest way to steal one from an enemy. These horses are much calmer and easier to tame than wild horses, so if you see an enemy riding around on one, knock them off and take their horse – it’s best to use projectiles to avoid injuring the horse.
If you’d rather do things the intended way, then you’ll need to sneak up on a herd of wild horses by crouching and dashing at the right moment. Hit A to mount the horse and then repeatedly tap the L button to soothe them. The stronger the horse is, the longer it will take to soothe, and you may run out of stamina, but assuming you have enough (or munch on some stamina-recovery items) you’ll eventually tame the horse.
How to register a horse – Zelda TotK
If you want to see your horse’s stats and save them for later use, all you need to do is ride to the front desk of a stable. Use ZL and A to speak to the receptionist without dismounting and you can ask to register your horse for 20 rupees – it will then come whenever you whistle.
