Directioners across the globe have been reduced to tears after Zayn Malik paid tribute to his late bandmate Liam Payne at the end of his debut show for the Stairway To The Sky Tour.
Over the weekend, Zayn officially returned to centre stage in Leeds for his first-ever solo tour.
Although many Directioners were proud to see one of their faves return to the spotlight, it was Zayn’s tribute to Liam that got the waterworks going.
After performing his final song on his setlist, “Stardust”, the stage went dark before text on a screen appeared.
“Liam Payne, 1993-2024, Love you Bro,” it read alongside a red heart.

As footage of the tribute emerged on social media, Directioners rallied together expressing how it made them “cry all over again”.
“This is such a bittersweet sight, I bet Liam would’ve appreciated it,” one fan wrote.
“Zayn’s tribute means so much. He’s gonna take Liam with him to every city he performs because he didn’t get a chance to do it. He’s keeping his memory alive. Thank you, Zayn. Liam sees everything and he’s so proud of you,” another fan shared on X (formerly Twitter).
“ZAYN PAID TRIBUTE TO LIAM AT HIS FIRST EVER CONCERT FOR HIS FIRST EVER TOUR IM CRYING WTF. LIAM SHOULD BE THERE CHEERING HIM ON,” wrote a third.
The singer’s sweet tribute comes days after Liam was officially put to rest in Amersham, north-west of London.
Zayn, alongside his former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, joined Liam’s family and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy to say their final goodbyes to the beloved singer.
Liam tragically passed away last month after he fell from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aries, Argentina. Preliminary autopsy reports indicated that his death was caused by injuries he sustained from the fall. It also revealed that the singer had multiple substances in his system at the time of his death, including pink cocaine.
Three people have been charged in relation to Liam’s death. Investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
