Zara McDermott forced to leave Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals early after medical emergency

Zara McDermott was forced to leave Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals early after her boyfriend Sam Thompson feared he had kidney disease.

The former Love Island star, who is partnered with professional dance partner Graziano Di Prima, has been focused on perfecting her Charleston to avoid being in the bottom two for a third time this weekend.

Despite her attempts to stay out of the dance-off, the 26-year-old was forced to dash from rehearsals early to support Thompson, 31, only to find that there was nothing wrong with him.

Speaking to Pete Wicks on their podcast Staying Relevant, the former Made in Chelsea star said: “You came to me when I thought I was dying, and you literally were there for me.”

To which Wick replied: “Despite knowing there was nothing wrong with you.”

Thompson then revealed he asked McDermott to leave her Strictly rehearsals after thinking there was something seriously wrong with him.

He shared: “Do you want to know something worse? I made Zara leave her Strictly training early to come and see me at the doctors and it was just for the guy to go, ‘Yeah, you're fine’.”

His admission comes after Thompson said he “could have done more” for McDermott after she found herself in the dance-off last weekend for the second time when her Pasodoble missed the mark with viewers.

However, she and Di Prima narrowly avoided leaving the show when the judges chose to save them at the expense of comedian Eddie Kadi and professional partner Karen Hauer.

On his radio show, Hits UK with Sam Thompson, he told listeners: “Zara was in the dance off again! It's happening all too often and it's very hard to take as a boyfriend because she comes back all deflated and she's worked so hard.

“I've got to be honest with you though I could have done a bit more!

“I was a bit distracted by the rugby, by the World Cup and I didn't go as big with my usual efforts on Instagram but I'm going to come back stronger this week though!

“We're not going to go down without a fight baby!”
