Zara employees share 'hidden meaning' behind symbols on clothing tags

Zara employees have taken to social media to debunk a popular theory on TikTok surrounding the symbols that you can find on their clothing tags.

The Spanish high-street fashion chain has a range of symbols on their clothing tags - circle, triangle and square - and many shoppers always wondered what they meant.

Just recently, a 'hack' went viral on TikTok as it explained what they believed was the real meaning behind the symbols. It was initially thought that they worked as a sizing guide, as one video explained: "Square means true to size, triangle means it runs small, and circle means it runs big."

However, that does not seem to be the case at all. Many of the retailers employees have taken to the comments section on the video to explain the actual meaning, reports The Manchester Evening News.

And, judging from the comments, it has nothing to do with sizing at all. In fact, it's more of a handy guide for employees to know where to stock items in store.

"I actually asked someone who works at zara and she was laughing. They are for the employees that help them placing the items correctly in the shop," said one Tik Tok user.

xx said: "I Work in Zara and this is not true. "Deeznuts.xo_ wrote: "Worked at Zara, the symbols mean what line their from woman’s basics, trafaluc and such."

Andreea Udroiu commented: "I Work in zara and this...is not true. Circle-wmn, triangle-trf, square-basic."

christinatzt said: "It's not true of course! it doesn't have to do totally with size but it has to do with the collection for example trafaluc is more youthful collection."

itsmeCeeJay21 said :"Not true!!! worked in Zara for 6 yrs." vessi_k78 commented: "Not true at all. I have asked in couple of their stores and the signs have to do with the various collections."

Zara has now confirmed why the symbols are put onto the tags. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with sizing, but it is still worth looking for them, because they'll tell you which collection the item is from.

A Zara spokesperson also confirmed with The Mirror that the symbols on the clothing tags represent the different areas of the store that the clothing belongs in, whether it's the Woman, Basic or TRF section.
