Zane Tetevano's harsh verdict on Leeds Rhinos performance as he sends message over discipline

Many Leeds Rhinos fans will have been left thoroughly impressed with Zane Tetevano's performance in the clash with Warrington Wolves.

The New Zealand international put in a hard-hitting performance and put an exclamation mark on that with a try that signalled a promising start to his second season with the club.

Though that's not his take on the matter.

"No, not at all," was Tetevano's response when asked about his own performance.

"I'm pretty hard on myself so I'll look at some stuff on video. I have a long year ahead of me and I need to be better.

"I just want to improve on last year. My partner tells me to relax sometimes."

It's certainly enticing to wonder what a satisfactory performance may look like for the big forward, though in the meantime, he's simply hoping to remain on the field.

Three players were sent off for high tackles in round one and Tetevano is determined to make sure he doesn't join that list after a suspension-hit campaign last year.

Questions have been raised around the severity of the clampdown but Tetevano insists players must adapt, including his own teammates after the Rhinos endured a red and yellow card in round one.

"You've got to get your tackle technique right," he said.

"The rules are there for a reason and I had my fair share last year. I don't want to be in that position again. Even with tackling behind the back, you can't do it anymore. It's for the safety of our players so we've got to get it right.

"We want a healthy squad playing at our best so we need to be better with it. It's a learning curve but we're all on board with getting it right."
