Zander Clark handed transfer timeline by Dundee United as Jack Ross looks to kickstart Tannadice business

Dundee United hope Zander Clark will become one of Jack Ross’ s first signings. The Tannadice club have pushed the boat out and made a lucrative three year offer to the Scotland squad keeper.

The former St Johnstone No. 1 has just arrived back in Scotland within the last 24 hours and United are looking for a quickfire answer. Clark met with United Sporting Director Tony Asghar before he went away on honeymoon. The 30-year-old has interest down south, including Stoke City, but so far nobody has put a firm offer on the table.

Ross is happy for United to seal the deal if they can, even though it was set in motion under previous boss Tam Courts. United have been in the market for a No. 1 since Benjamin Siegrist quit on freedom of contract to join Celtic. he Taysiders already have Finnish international Carljohan Eriksson and Jack Newman competing for the gloves.

United are still actively working to strengthen other areas, with attacking options and midfielders the main priority. Hibs striker Christian Doidge is amongst their striking options and for the middle of the park United are keen to get Dylan Levitt back on-loan from Manchester United.

Wigan Athletic’s Jamie McGrath is another name amongst their midfield options. Ross admitted he would have loved to have strengthened already but it is about getting the right players on board.

The United boss stated: “It’s about making sure they are the right ones. If we exhaust our options on certain players, we need to move onto other targets but the identification has been done on individuals who can make us better.

“I think we need to bring greater depth to the group — there were players who carried a lot of the load last season — so it’s definitely not something we are flippant about. We know we need depth and quality, but we believe that — by committing to the ones we want — we might need to be patient but we’ll get the right players."

United were boosted by the news American Ian Harkes has finally put pen to paper on a new one year deal. The Tayside outfit announced the deal but then pulled the announcement because the player hadn’t agreed on the final terms But .Harkes has now extended his three year stay at Tannadice after talks with Ross.

The United manager explained: “To manage to convince him to come back to the club and continue his progress at Dundee United is fantastic. He was very influential in the club enjoying the season they did last year.

“I spoke to him a lot over the past 10 days and I’m looking forward to working with him now. I think it was more borne out of the fact that, for the first time in a few years, Ian found himself in a position where he could choose his own destiny.

"When you have that interest on the back of a productive season, it is understandable that he would give proper consideration to all options.”
