Zambia star Frankie Musonda happy to ditch summer holidays to send Ayr United to Premier League

Frankie Musonda wants to ditch his summer holidays in favour of sending Ayr to the Premier League.

The centre half is dreaming of a run to the play-off finals that would take United through to June 4.

Then the Zambian international would head straight for a huge African Nations Cup qualifier against the Ivory Coast.

He admitted: "I'm hoping I don't have much of a break this year - that would actually be a good thing.

"I'm sure after my international game I'll get some time.

"But the plan is to not have a good summer and keep playing, which means being as successful as we can.

"We've got a huge game against Inverness now on Friday and know what we need to do to reach the play-offs.

"As a club we want to shift the mentality to be looking up the table - especially after where we were last year.

"For me, play-offs is the minimum of where we should be aiming instead of fighting down the bottom.

"Nothing is done yet but fingers crossed we can get over the line.

"It's an exciting last day for fans of all clubs and we're just happy to be in the mix."

Musonda's winner against former club Raith kept Ayr in the hunt with a crucial three points.

It marked his second goal in four games and he smiled: "It was good but the main thing for me is always keeping the ball out at the other end.

"I'm just pleased to do my bit. This is what we want to be playing for at the end of the season and I was delighted to get what could be a really important goal."

Injury-hit Rovers listed just one outfield sub - teenager Greig Young - as their season ends with a whimper.

But it took Ayr until the second half to break down their stubborn resistance.

Sam Ashford hit the post in the first half before Dipo Akinyemi missed a great chance from six yards just before the break.

Ayr were far more lively after half time and with Ashford and Josh Mullin going close.

Their vital winner arrived when skipper Sean McGinty crossed for fellow centre half Musonda to bullet home a header.

Akinyemi drew a brilliant save from Jamie MacDonald with a stinging 25 yard drive.

But Liam Dick could have stolen a point when his header was cleared off the line by Reece McAlear.

Rovers boss Ian Murray said: "We were already down to the bare bones before this so it was tough.

"The boys put everything into the game at a very difficult place to come against a side going for promotion."
