Zambia and Nigeria have secured their spots in the women's football tournament at the Paris Olympics after emerging victorious in the fourth round of African qualifying playoffs.
Zambia faced off against Morocco in a tightly contested two-legged playoff, with the Copper Queens managing to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit to claim a 3-2 aggregate victory. The decisive match took place at Moulay Hassan Stadium, where Orlando Pride striker Barbra Banda played a pivotal role in Zambia's success. Banda opened the scoring in the 38th minute and later sealed the win with a penalty conversion in the 105th minute.
Looking ahead, Zambia is set to compete in Group B at the Olympics, where they will face formidable opponents such as the United States, Germany, and Australia. Their journey kicks off with a challenging match against the USWNT in Nice on July 25.
Meanwhile, Nigeria secured their fourth Olympic appearance by holding South Africa to a goalless draw in Pretoria. The Super Falcons had previously clinched a 1-0 victory in Abuja, ensuring their qualification for the prestigious tournament.
At the Olympics, Nigeria will be placed in Group C, where they are scheduled to take on world champions Spain, as well as former champions Japan and Brazil. Their opening match will see them face Brazil in Bordeaux on July 25.
