Zak Lovelace earns England international call-up - ending season at Rangers

Zak Lovelace has earned international recognition with England.

The striker has been called into England's under-17 squad for upcoming the European Championships in Hungary.

And with that, his season at Rangers appears to be over.

The ex-Millwall attacker was handed his full debut for the Ibrox club in Rangers' 3-0 win over Celtic on Saturday.

But that looks highly likely to be the last time he turns out for Michael Beale's first team this term.

That's because of the scheduling of the continental competition this summer.

England enters the tournament tomorrow, with their first game against Croatia.

Their third and final group game is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24.

So, in theory, Lovelace could well return in time for Rangers' final game of the season against St Mirren on Saturday, May 27.

However, there's no doubt that England will have ambitions on going far in the competition.

If they realise those aims, then Lovelace will not be back in time to feature in any of Rangers' remaining matches.

Clubs aren't obliged to release their players for the tournament - as it falls out with an international window.

Celtic's Daniel Cummings and Ross County's Dylan Smith pulled from international action because they're too important to their club sides.

Kilmarnock left-back Luke Chambers, on loan from Liverpool, actually rejected the chance to take part in England's U20s World Cup campaign in favour of helping Derek McInnes' men in their fight to survive in the Premiership.
