Vicente Guaita - 6
Held onto a Saint-Maximin shot well but could do very little to stop Almiron's curling effort fly into his top corner. Was relatively untested following the goal and only called into action to claim crosses and corners.
Tyrick Mitchell - 5
Had a difficult first half and struggled to deal with Almiron for the opener as he was shrugged past before the goal. Recovered in the second half when Palace got on the front foot a little more.
Marc Guehi - 7
Shepherded the ball out of play well several times in the first half while Newcastle players pressured him. Was one of Palace's best players on an otherwise miserable evening on Tyneside.

Joachim Andersen - 5
Not as dominant as he could have been in defence and in a physical battle against Joelinton and Dan Burn from set-pieces.
Nathaniel Clyne - 4
Very rarely had options to play the ball forward and seemed frustrated by it. Did not have much of an impact going forwards with either Olise or Ayew ahead of him.
Cheikhou Kouyate - 6
Broke up play a couple of times and was one of the brighter players in an otherwise dreadful first half. Replaced by McArthur on the hour mark with Palace trying to up their tempo and control midfield more.
Jeffrey Schlupp - 5
Had little impact on proceedings from midfield in the first half as Palace weren't at the races. Helped push Palace up the field more in the second period thanks to James McArthur's substitution.
Conor Gallagher - 4
Watched the game played around him in midfield as Palace couldn't get a foothold in the match at all. Earned himself an unnecessary booking right at the end of the first half for a foul on Bruno Guimaraes. Made some promising runs forward at the start of the second period but was hooked before getting a chance to redeem himself.
Wilfried Zaha - 5
Little to no impact in the first half as Palace were outplayed in every department. Got some chances to beat his early man in the second half but wasted them before firing his first shot of the match wide of Dubravka's post after being teed up by Edouard.
Odsonne Edouard - 5
Looked like a player who has barely had any minutes of late as several loose touches and mistimed passes ended a few Palace attacks in the first half. Got a shot away towards the end of the half but it was low and straight at Martin Dubavka.
Michael Olise - 5
Always desperate to get the ball so he could run at Matt Targett but didn't always receive it from his teammates. Was eventually hooked five minutes before half-time for Jordan Ayew.
Substitutes
Jordan Ayew (for Michael Olise 39') - 5
Brought on to stop the rot in the first half but didn't do an awful lot on the ball to help Palace going forward. Blazed an effort over the bar in the second half.
Jean-Philippe Mateta (for Conor Gallagher 59') - 7
Immediately made an impact when winning a corner following a good forward run. Improved the team and had some nice link-up play with Edouard at times.
James McArthur (for Cheikhou Kouyate 59') - 6
Saw lots of the ball from midfield and got Palace moving at a faster rhythm in midfield. Always looked to play it forward.
