Isaac Wilson, the younger brother of Denver Broncos backup quarterback Zach Wilson, made the first start of his college football career on Saturday.
Wilson, a true freshman, helped the Utah Utes improve to 3-0 with a 38-21 victory over the Utah State Aggies (1-2). Wilson went 20-of-33 passing for 239 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.
Wilson got the start after Utes starting quarterback Cam Rising injured his hand against Baylor last week and was not available on Saturday. Rising, 25, missed all of last season with a knee injury and returned for a seventh year at Utah this fall.
Wilson, 18, was a four-star recruit out of Corner Canyon High School who committed to Utah last year. He totaled 4,469 yards and scored 45 touchdowns as a high school senior last fall.
Isaac’s older brother, Zach Wilson, was traded from the New York Jets to the Broncos this spring. The elder Wilson (25) is Denver’s third-string quarterback behind rookie Bo Nix and primary backup Jarrett Stidham.
