Zach LaVine vows to keep contributing despite finger injury

On Tuesday night, the Chicago Bulls suffered an embarrassing loss, falling to the slumping Indiana Pacers, 116-110, after blowing a first-half 21-point lead, to snap their three-game winning streak.

The Pacers outscored the Bulls 70-48 in the second-half to steal the game on the second-night of Chicago’s back-to-back.

In the loss, Zach LaVine shooting struggles continued, finishing with just 14 points and six turnovers on 4-of-14 shooting from the field and 0-of-7 from downtown.

After the loss, LaVine mentioned to the media that his injured finger on his shooting hand has hindered his ability to shoot from deep, speaking to the 0-of-7 shooting performance from 3-point range on Tuesday.

“I’m playing with a messed-up finger obviously on my shooting hand,” LaVine said. “You can see by the numbers I’m not shooting the ball well from 3. I can still get to the cup and shoot free throws, shoot midrange. Obviously, you can see by the numbers it’s affecting my shot. But it’s not going to keep me from trying to go out there and help and contribute.”

Since suffering the right hand contusion on Jan. 11, LaVine has shot just 6-for-36 from downtown and is shooting just 41.3 percent overall.

“It hurts some days. But when I’m out there, I’m trying not to think about it,” LaVine said. “Obviously, I’m going to try to play as long as I put a brace on it.”

If LaVine’s going to be out there with the finger injury, he may want to focus on attacking the cup, as he mentioned, instead of launching from deep at such a poor clip.

“If I’m out there, I’m healthy enough to play.”
