Zac Efron fans had to do a double-take when they saw his new look while promoting new film The Iron Claw.
The actor, 36, was chatting to Entertainment Weekly about his latest role in the flick, which is about the life of professional wrestler Kevin Von Erich and his family.
However, rather than what was said about the film, it was Efron’s appearance that got commenters talking the most.
In the clip with the US publication, Efron, who originally shot to fame as a child star in the High School Musical films, had a noticeably fuller jawline.
The Greatest Showman star spoke previously about his facial transformation in 2022 amid whispers of plastic surgery, stating it was the result of a shattered jaw after he smashed his chin on a fountain.
Even still, his fans were shocked and not entirely kind about his features.
“What happened to his face?” questioned one person, while another called his visage “huge”.
Others compared him to characters like Thanos in Avengers and even Prince Farquaad from animated movie Shrek.
Appearing on the cover of Men’s Health Magazine last year, Efron addressed what had happened to his face, and revealed that even his own mother had questioned whether he had gone under the knife.
Efron recalled to the publication how he had slipped on a pair of socks while running at his home which led to him smashing his chin into a granite fountain.
He said that this meant the masseter muscles on the inside of his face and jaw then “compensated” for his injury, causing them to grow in size which then lead to his altered look.
It’s the second time in recent weeks that Efron has hit the headlines after a story resurfaced following Matthew Perry’s death, that he had been the Friends actor’s first choice to play him in a film about his life.
The two had previously starred together in the 2009 teen fantasy comedy 17 Again.
