VIJAYAWADA: YSR Congress MPs, V Vijayasai Reddy and P V Midhun Reddy represented the party when NDA presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu filed here nomination in Delhi on Friday. Both Vijayasai Reddy and Midhun Reddy, signed the nomination papers of Murmu on behalf of their party.
The two MPs represented the party president and chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was busy with the scheduled cabinet meeting back home. The YSR Congress with 4.22 per cent of votes had backed the NDA candidate, which was running short of 2.33 per cent votes.
Jagan Mohan Reddy welcomed the selection of tribal leader Murmu as the Presidential candidate, giving due representation to the Scheduled Tribes and strictly following the concept of social justice. He said his government in Andhra Pradesh too was following social justice by giving due representation to every section of the people.
The YSR Congress has 22 MPs in Lok Sabha, 9 MPs in Rajya Sabha and 151 MLAs in the state assembly constituting 45,550 votes in the electoral college for the Presidential election. PM Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and BJP national president J P Nadda are in close contact with Jagan Mohan Reddy from the beginning of the presidential election process.
Meanwhile, YSR Congress MPs-elect, R Krishnaiah and S Niranjan Reddy took the oath as members of Rajya Sabha in Parliament House on Friday. Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu administered the oath to the new members, who were elected recently.
