YouTuber's video highlights West Lothian's attractions

A popular online Scottish historian has released a video telling over 130,000 of his subscribers why you’d be crazy not to visit West Lothian.

Scotland History Tours has released the video on YouTube, presented by Bruce Fumey, the 10-minute video examines West Lothian as an underrated tourist destination.

Bruce explains that West Lothian holds a wealth of Scottish history, citing its proud industrial history, great inventors, political intrigue, assassinations and its outstanding prehistoric monument.

Bruce Fumey had previously taken an interest in West Lothian, releasing a video earlier this year looking back at the role it played as the centre of the Scottish oil industry.

In the video on the Scottish History Tours channel, Bruce visits the Bennie Museum in Bathgate, the shale trail, Torphichen, the Scottish Korean War Memorial, The Knock, and Cairnpapple.

Stuart Ness, media officer at Visit West Lothian, explained to The Courier why West Lothian is a premiere tourist destination.

Stuart said: ”The video touched on a lot of the history that West Lothian has to offer. We have a lot of amazing stories here.

“A lot of the history that started in West Lothian went on to shape Scotland as a whole.

“We really enjoyed the video, it highlights those stories that go back thousands of years.

“West Lothian really is worth visiting because of those stories, the mix of the rugged landscape along with the brilliant works of engineering like the Union Canal.

“You can walk straight from the huge shopping centre that is the Livingston Designer Outlet and be on the shale trail in just a matter of minutes.

“The shale trail is the 16-mile route that winds through our natural wild landscapes and shows off the remaining examples of when West Lothian was at the heart of Scotland’s oil boom.

“Here at Visit West Lothian we try our best to support West Lothians tourist industry, collaborating with hotels, cafes, restaurants, tourist destinations, and attractions - helping them stay connected to tourism on the national level.

“Right now we’re backing the campaign ‘film on the forth’ which highlights sights in area where filming is taking place for shows like 'Outlander' - a lot of people from America come to visit the locations like Linlithgow Palace, and Midhope House.”
