YouTube star KSI pays up after £10,000 bet with former coach Viddal Riley

KSI honoured his £10,000 wager with Viddal Riley after his former coach picked up a stoppage victory over Jone Volau in June.

Riley is taking the latest steps of his cruiserweight career under the BOXXER and Sky Sports banner and made his return to the ring on the undercard of Amir Khan's defeat to Kell Brook in February. Prior to his bout on the card YouTube star KSI - real name JJ Olatunji -claimed he would pay Riley £10,000 if he stopped Willbeforce Shihepo on the night.

He was unable to do so but later picked up a stoppage victory when he knocked out Volau four months later. Riley has revealed he was shocked the bet was rolled over by Olatunji who added the money to his account after his most recent win instead.

"He still honoured it," Riley told Sky Sports when revealing the outcome of his five-figure wager. "So that was nice, I didn't expect it to roll over and I didn't know it was a roll over deal but when I found out and I checked the account everything matched out. It wasn't a debt but he pays his bets.

"It was a nice little thing to do and that is like the least of my focuses really and I am really trying to get my own bank rolling on my fists. I own it but in particular bets like that I don't want to make them a regular thing, but it just goes to show he is backing his boy and he is giving me incentives to do well."

Prior to the wager with KSI, Riley hadn't fought since 2020 due to injuries and the coronavirus pandemic. However after signing his own deal to compete in the UK, Riley has now put aside his role with Olatunji to focus on his own career.

Despite trying to focus on taking the traditional route to boxing stardom, Riley has been linked with fights against opponents from the content creator world including Olatunji's bitter rival Jake Paul. And the 25-year-old has admitted he would be open to touching gloves with his friend's famous foe providing it is at the right stage of his career.

"That's only logical sense," Riley said on his YouTube channel of a showdown with the 'Problem Child'. "I can't sit here and say 'you know what, he's still not on my level,' because that's a bit arrogant and doesn't make logical sense. I'm quite a logical person, so if his name is Jake Paul, once you fight someone who I could be in the ring with then I have to consider you as someone who could be a potential opponent."
