YouTube star Harley Morenstein uses 62lb weight advantage to stop opponent

YouTube star Harley Morenstein's 62lb advantage over rival Arin Hanson was enough to land him a second-round victory in his boxing debut last night.

The social media sensation is best known for hosting Epic Meal Time, and had been preparing for his fight with Hanson by working with Montreal-based coach Jessy Thompson as well as controversial comedian Sam Hyde. His opponent was best known as part of the channel Game Grumps, and had only started training a few weeks before the fight.

And it became clear early that Morenstein's significant size advantage, coupled with Hanson's lack of training time, would prove a major difference maker. Immediately, the Canadian took to the centre of the ring and began an onslaught on Hanson, which the Floridian did well to survive.

The pair went back-and-forth for the short duration of their bout, with Morenstein ultimately landing the cleaner and more effective shots. Early in the second he landed a big right during an exchange that appeared to change the course of the fight, and before the pair could be separated by the bell, the fight was stopped following a barrage of punches.

"I split my training between the Ghost of Kyiv [a nickname Hyde earned after an internet prank] and Jessy Thompson who's actually been coaching real boxers," Morenstein told Mirror Fighting . "I split the difference between the two training techniques.

"Like I said, I'm bigger than Arin, heavier and I'd been training longer. I think I gave about 20 per cent, I knew from the first punch that I had it but I never wanted to feel like I was trying to hurt somebody. All of his punches came in and some of them hit me on the side of the head, so my neck is sore and some of those could have f***ed me up.

"A lot of people that came in after their matches were gassed and I know I only did one-and-a-half rounds there but I was gassed too."

Morenstein has since called out Twitch streamer Dr Disrespect, who would tower over the Canadian's sizable 6'6" frame if the pair were to meet as he stands at 6'8". It remains to be seen if "The Doc" will answer Morenstein's call for the huge heavyweight clash.
