YouTube star Adam B hoping to be part of new Guinness World Record this weekend

Derry YouTuber Adam B is hoping to be part of a new Guinness World Record this weekend.

On Saturday, April 23, the Nerve Centre, producers of Our Place in Space, are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as astronauts at Bay Road Park.

The ticketed event, which has now sold out, is a chance for the people of the city to be involved in a cosmic mission and become world record-breakers.

The current world record is 257 astronauts, held by Sea Mills Primary School in Bristol.

The spacesuits worn must meet strict criteria as set out by Guinness World Records. To make sure the spacesuits are mission ready, Our Place in Space will be hosting a series of workshops leading up to the attempt, providing you all with the materials needed to create your own costume.

Astronauts will then gather at Bay Road Park at midday on Saturday, April 23, a day after the sculpture trail officially opens, to take part in the world record attempt.

All proceeds raised at the event will to Derry-based charity, Foyle Hospice.

A spokesperson for Foyle Hospice said: "Join Adam B on Saturday 23rd April in Bay Road Park, Derry when the Nerve Centre’s, Our Place in Space Project, attempts to break a Guinness World Record for the most amount of people dressed as astronauts in one place!

"Calling astronauts from 1 to 100 years old... be a part of something out of this world! Not only is this a Guinness World Record attempt, but we are also delighted to be named the event's nominated charity and will have volunteers there on the day collecting to help support our essential services.

"Best of luck to everyone on Saturday and we hope you smash it!"

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Our Place in Space, said: “The opening weekend for the Our Place in Space sculpture trail includes a packed programme of events and activities for everyone to take part in and enjoy. We all know how much people in Derry love to get dressed up and to set new records so we’re encouraging as many people as possible to come along and help set a new record for the city.”

MyDerry will be at the event on Saturday, so keep your eyes peeled for our Facebook Live.
