YouTube boxer KSI pays fan's £18,000 university fees after losing bet

YouTuber-turned-boxer KSI has paid off a fan's £18,000 university fees after agreeing to the big money bet over a game of 'rock, paper, scissors'.

The social media star met long-time follower Jordan Macmillan during a recent event where he was filming with pals from his YouTube crew . He approached the 28-year-old, who has made a multi-million-pound fortune from his YouTube videos, rap career and three big-money boxing matches.

KSI, who is currently training for his boxing comeback on August 27, agreed to a bet for one year of the student's university fees, worth about £9,000. But Macmillan was left in tears when after winning the game, he received a bank transfer from the YouTuber with the value of the remainder of his college term, two years.

"I was absolutely shocked, I couldn't believe it," Macmillan told The Sun after the video of their bet went viral on Twitter. "He's such a nice guy so I had no doubt he'd send it but I was so shocked he sent it that quickly.

"It still hasn't settled in yet. I'm not sure it ever will. I sent him a message after to thank him trying to keep my cool but I couldn't. I then phoned my family, tears everywhere. I still can't believe it, I'll probably invite him to my graduation."

The video was the latest in a string of philanthropic moves from the millionaire musician throughout his career as a YouTuber and fighter. YouTuber Josh Larkin told on a recent episode of his podcast The Fellas how after KSI, whose real name is JJ Olatunji, once paid his rent as a joke during a Twitch stream.

"JJ once couldn't make it to my birthday dinner," the YouTube star said. "He was ill or something and he texts me while I'm at the dinner like 'yo, sorry I can't make it, man, send me your bank details, I'll sort you out'.

"I didn't send them, I said not to worry, obviously, but I would have been interested to see how much he would have sent because one time I was streaming Fortnite and JJ donated £1,500, he mugged me right off, he goes 'here's your rent, Chip'.

"But he sent it twice by accident, he sent me three grand. So I've texted him to say I'll send it back and he told me not to worry and keep it."

The YouTube star is currently in training for his return to the ring on August 27, with an opponent soon to be announced. He is planning to fight twice in 2022 after launching Misfits Boxing in association with the Sauerland brothers and Wasserman.

And supposing he wins those two bouts, the second of which could be against Austin McBroom, he plans to face off with long-time rival Jake Paul. He beat the American's older brother Logan in their rematch after drawing in the first fight, but coronavirus restrictions caused their planned bout in 2020 to be shelved.
