Aston Villa have announced the signing of former Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.
Speculation regarding the Belgian’s future circulated throughout the season and, following relegation, a departure seemed inevitable. Tielemans confirmed via Instagram a fortnight ago that he would leave the King Power Stadium after four years.
Liverpool were one of several Premier League clubs linked with the 26-year-old due to Jurgen Klopp’s ongoing midfield rebuild. Reports suggested the Reds were considering an approach as a cheap alternative to other targets.
However, that move never materialised and Tielemans will now join the Unai Emery revival at Villa Park. A club statement confirmed that he is set to join the club once his contract officially expires on July 1.

“Aston Villa is delighted to announce that the club has reached an agreement to sign Youri Tielemans,” an announcement read. “The Belgian international will officially become a Villan on July 1 after his contract with Leicester City has expired.
“Tielemans has played at the highest level throughout his career, with Anderlecht and Monaco among his former clubs, and he has most recently played in the Premier League at Leicester City, where his goal helped the Foxes win the FA Cup in 2021.
"A regular for his country on the international stage, the 26-year-old has represented Belgium at World Cup tournaments in 2018 and 2022 and at UEFA Euro 2020.
Liverpool remain in the market for further midfield recruits after confirming the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton this week.
