Youri Tielemans hints at Leicester exit amid Manchester United links

Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans has admitted he could leave the Foxes this summer, with Manchester United rumoured to be interested.

Erik ten Hag is on the hunt for midfielders, with Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong and Kalvin Phillips of Leeds being targeted. Tielemans has been linked with a move to United since last summer.

Speculation over a move calmed after the Belgian experienced an underwhelming first half of the season with Leicester. But his form towards the end of the campaign saw rumours resurface.

Tielemans, who has a year left on his deal at the King Power Stadium, has seemingly not been at the forefront of Ten Hag’s United transfer plans. But his recent comments could change that, with any sale likely to come at a cut-price fee.

Speaking ahead of Belgium’s Nations League fixture with Poland on Wednesday, as per the Mirror, the 25-year-old said: That [a move] is not out of the question.

"But I can also stay. I feel very good at Leicester, I was welcomed with open arms from day one.

“I give everything for the club until the last day. But of course, you have to listen to other opportunities, you have to look at your career, and sometimes you have to make choices. Maybe one will come my way.”

Later, speaking to RTBF, Tielemans explained how he doesn't feel any pressure to make a decision on his future but suggested one will come this summer. He outlined how only a “great project” would convince him to leave Leicester.

He said: “You need to stay calm. I’m good where I am. I still have a year left on my contract. I’m not in a rush. When you change clubs, you don’t change just to change.

“You change because there is a great project on the table. For a player, the most important thing is to play. It’ll be up to me to make the right decision regarding my future this summer, but now, I’m relaxed and focusing on the Red Devils.”

Ten Hag may hope that Tielemans sees that he is undertaking a 'great project' at Old Trafford as he begins his rebuild of the club.
