Your ultimate guide to shopping the Presidents' Day sales – expert advice from shopping editors and sales hunters

Cream dining chairs beneath a wood dining table laden with plates and cutlery; a wooden dresser on a floral carpet against a white wall.

The countdown is on for the 2025 Presidents' Day sales. Whether you want to grab the latest gadget or save a little cash on everyday essentials, you'll find a whole host of small and large appliances, furniture and decor listed for less in the Presidents' Day sales.

As we approach Presidents' Day, we're starting to see early discounts, mostly from mattress manufacturers and bedding brands. Save 20% on all mattresses when you shop at Tuft & Needle and buy bedding on a budget at BEDGEAR.

To help you get started, I've assembled an expert A to Z of where and what to shop in the Presidents' Day sales. I've also picked out a few of the deepest discounts on tried and tested favorites.

Where to shop − an expert A to Z

What to shop – the best of the early Presidents' Day sales

Here at Homes & Gardens, we employ a dedicated team of shopping writers and sales hunters to find the best of the early Presidents' Day sales. We each have our own specialism. Lydia covers kitchen content, including the best air fryers: Dan focuses on floorcare to find the best vacuum; Charlotte picks the prettiest furniture and decor; and I'm your resident Sleep Editor, helping you find the lowest price on the best mattress. I asked my fellow eCommerce Editors what they recommend from our test labs and hours of online research.

How to shop the Presidents' Day sales

DO your research ahead of time

Before any major sales holiday, I like to comb through my favorite retailers and make a wish list of the products I want to buy. I make sure I'm signed up for mailing lists to get notified when anything on my wish list goes on sale.

DON'T buy something just because it's on sale

As a sales hunter, I love a good bargain − but as a shopping writer, I'll never compromise quality for cost. Before you snap up that sales price, ask yourself whether the discount is too deep – whether you're being tricked into buying something subpar for the price it's actually worth.

DO read as many reviews as you can

Before I buy, I read a selection of customer reviews to get a better idea of what it might be like to use this product. I try not to be taken in by the first few five-star reviews, but equally, I won't be put off by the odd two- or three-star. With reviews, it's about quantity just as much as quality.

DON'T rush to buy an early deal

We've still got a few weeks to go until Presidents' Day and I'd expect to see prices fall further as we approach the big day. Unless you've already got your eye on a trending product that you're afraid will sell out, I'd encourage you to hold off and wait for more deals to drop.

FAQs

When is Presidents' Day 2025?

This year, Presidents' Day falls on Monday February 17. It's always the third Monday in February.

When do Presidents' Day sales start?

It depends on the sales category. Mattress brands are often the first to launch Presidents' Day discounts, so keep an eye on the mattress sales in the first week of February. At the start of the month, you can also expect to see large appliances listed for less.

Major home retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, and Target, tend to wait until the week before Presidents' Day (so, Monday February 10) to drop their deals on home tech and small appliances.

With so much listed for so little, it's easy to feel spoiled for choice. That's why our eCommerce Editors are creating dedicated deals hubs to help you find the best bargains. Take a look through our shortlists for the best air fryer deals or best coffee maker deals to get started.
