Newcastle Herald ran live rolling coverage as the Hunter's votes came in for the 2024 local government elections on Saturday.

Relive the campaigns across all 11 councils within the Hunter Region, as more than 200 people put themselves forward to represent their area.

The election, held on Saturday, September 14, was marred in controversy, with the Liberal Party failing to nominate 140 candidates - including in two Hunter LGAs - before the required deadline.

Meanwhile there were questions about whether people even knew the election was on. In Lake Macquarie, Liberal mayoral candidate Melody Harding spent the day meeting with constituents at Speers Point.

She said there was a real mix when it came to voters, between those who already had their minds made up and others who only found out about the local council election on the day. Read the full story here.
