Amid the worsening cost of living crisis, and soaring energy bills, most of us are looking for ways to cut costs.
Martin Lewis is known for his switching and money-saving tips, but as the cost of living worsens, recent events have left even him at a loss at how to help people at times. One recent suggestion of his, though, involved a 1.5p her hour item that may keep people warm.
He explained that people struggling to afford soaring energy bills could turn to alternative ways to heat themselves while at home. He said: "If you are desperate and can't afford to put the heating on then buying yourself, make sure its electrically safe, a heated gilet is a very efficient way to heat the body.
"For example, they're 50 watts roughly. Here's how to work out how much it costs you. A kilowatt is a thousand watts. A kilowatt/hour costs roughly 35p so if it's 50 watts that is a twentieth of that so it's going to cost you around 1.5p an hour to have a heated gilet on."
He stressed that he was not advocating the tip but said he understands some people may be in a position where it is the only type of heating they can afford.
This is just one suggestion among hundreds from Mr Lewis and others in recent months as we all try to lower our bills. Others have included switching off appliances when not in use, rather than leaving them on standby, avoiding using the tumble dryer, and spending less time in the shower.
