The family of a woman is demanding answers after she was found unresponsive on the roof of a hospital in Illinois, where she had been admitted as a patient, and later died.
28-year-old Chelsea Adolphus was admitted to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, Illinois, earlier in the week for undisclosed medical reasons, ABC 7 Chicago reported.
On Thursday morning, hospital staff discovered her on the roof of the facility in freezing conditions, wearing only a hospital gown.
She was reported missing prior to being found, but it remains unclear how long she was on the roof or how she accessed the area.
"I'm hurt. I'm sad," Yolanda Adolphus, Chelsea's mother, said. "I want answers. Answers to know what happened to my daughter."
After being found unresponsive at approximately 8:45 a.m., Chelsea was rushed to the emergency room for treatment but tragically passed away 14 hours later.
Her family is left with mounting questions about how the hospital lost track of her and why staff failed to ensure her safety during her stay.
Both the Lake County Coroner's Office and the Waukegan Police Department are conducting investigations into the incident, with further updates expected next week.
