A young man has been left fighting for his life after being knocked down on Scotland's busiest motorway on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services raced to the scene on the westbound carriageway of the M8, near Harthill, shortly after 4pm on Monday, October 17. The Daily Record reports that police shut down the road for more than five hours following the accident.
The incident involved a grey Renault Trafic SL28, a Volkswagen Crafter van and a 26-year-old pedestrian. The injured man was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to his life-threatening injuries.

A photograph from the scene shows the helicopter after it landed on the carriageway in front of queuing traffic. A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident but released pending further enquiries.
Investigators are now keen to speak with any motorists who could have access to dash cam footage that could assist with their enquiries. Sergeant Scott Sutherland, of Motherwell’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the crash are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may be able to help to get in touch.
“We would be especially keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the incident. Anyone with information or footage can contact officers on 101, quoting incident number 2210 of 17 October, 2022.
“I’d also like to thank the motorists who were affected by the road closure for their patience while we carried out our investigation.”
Edinburgh Live reported at the time that motorists were caught in huge tailbacks and diversions, as officers attended the scene of the accident. The road eventually reopened at approximately 9.35pm on Monday night.
