Young volunteers in Lanarkshire could be eligible for a new award

An award will recognise the efforts of young South Lanarkshire volunteers.

As part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, nominations are open to recognise residents who have made a voluntary contribution to their communities during the period of her reign.

One category is the Young Platinum Jubilee Award, which is open to those under 18 on July 14 this year.

Council Leader Joe Fagan said: “The awards are a great way to recognise the efforts of the volunteers in our communities.

“There are plenty of people out there who give up their own time and put in tremendous efforts to make things better for others.

“We know that a lot of the time they tend to be very modest – which is where we need your help.

“We are looking for people to nominate who they think should get the awards – with specific details of nominees and supporting comments from local groups.”

The other two categories are the Lifetime Achievement Platinum Jubilee Award and an Environment Platinum Jubilee Award.

There will be a total of 12 awards made by the council, three across the four areas of South Lanarkshire – Cambuslang/Rutherglen, Clydesdale, East Kilbride and Hamilton. The closing date for all nominations is July 14.

You can nominate someone via the council website or send details in post to: Platinum Jubilee Volunteering Awards, Floor 2, South Lanarkshire Council HQ, Almada St, Hamilton, ML3 0AA.

If you are sending a nomination by post you must include the name of nominee, status of nominee (Mr, Mrs, Dr etc), location of nominee, category nominated for, then your own name, phone and email address, along with a summary of why you think they are deserving of the award.
