The nephew of rapper Young Thug has been charged with murder after police say he shot his girlfriend in the face near Atlanta.
Farderren Deonta Grier has been charged with murder, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime and cruelty to children — a first-degree charge, in the fatal shooting of Destiny Fitzpatrick, police in East Point, Georgia, told the New York Daily News. It’s unclear what led to the cruelty to children charge.
“They were in a relationship with one another,” a police spokesman told the Daily News of Grier and Fitzpatrick. “At this time what is known is that an argument led to the fatal shooting.”
Grier, 21 eventually admitted to police that he’d shot Fitzpatrick, 24, but initially claimed to have been defending himself against a pair of armed intruders, East Point Police told TMZ.
Authorities told the Daily News the TMZ report was accurate.
Back in May, 30-year-old Young Thug, born Jeffery Lamar Williams, was taken into custody in Georgia on charges of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO.
The “Relationship” rapper denied the allegations — including a count for criminal street gang activity linked to a 2013 incident — through his lawyer.
“We will fight this case ethically, legally and zealously. Mr. Williams will be cleared,” said attorney Brian Steel in a statement to USA Today at the time.
