Young team nets over £2000 for charity

Kind-hearted young West Lothian footballers have helped raise more than £2500 for charity.

The kids at West Lothian Football Academy helped raise the fantastic sum for the Ronald McDonald House Charities following the positive experiences with the organisation for owners Danielle and Steven Johnstone.

The couple’s 10-year-old daughter Cali has required help from the charity following a series of hospital trips and operations with WLFA proudly handing over a cheque to the charity for £2646.

Cali required nine operations and multiple hospital admissions during which she was provided with a room at Ronald McDonald House – a home away from home for the couple and Cali’s brother Levi.

Danielle said: “The house was an absolute lifeline. It allowed us somewhere to sleep, our own bathroom, kitchen facilities and somewhere to get a hot cuppa.

“It also had a living room and playroom spaces which allowed Levi to come in and spend time playing with Cali and was a much-needed few hours of normality off the ward.”

She added: “The houses offer much more than just a place to stay. They provide family activities, peer support, respite, and many other services.

“This means that families can be by their child’s bedside in a matter of moments, whilst maintaining a degree of normal life with reduced emotional and financial strain.

“They help over 6,000 families each year and now, more than ever, they need support.”
