Young Scots footballer diagnosed with rare cancer as well wishes flood in

A promising teenage footballer has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Ryan Thomson is part of Stenhousemuir Football Club's 2007s Community Team Player.

The 14-year-old is being treated for Hodgkin Lymphoma, a cancer that develops in the lymphatic system.

The footballing community has rallied round the youngster as his Warriors team are said to have been devastated by the news.

In a statement, the club said: "Over the last week or so we’ve received some devastating news that 2007s Community Team Player Ryan Thomson has been diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma - Cancer.

"This is heartbreaking for any family, but for a young boy we know as one of our own, we want to ensure we are with Ryan & his family every step of the way.

"Ryan’s Journey starts today as he goes through the first part of his chemotherapy treatment.

"Please join us in wishing Ryan & his family all the very best. Once a Warrior, always a Warrior.

"We are all behind you Ryan."

Youth Football Scotland say they're also "behind" Ryan, and have urged him to stay strong.

Posting on Facebook, one person said: "All the best Ryan from my family to yours."

Another wrote: "Thinking of you, and all the family. Stay strong and hope you’re back on the pitch again soon."

A third said: "All the best Ryan, hopefully you are back playing soon."

"You've got this wee man", said a fourth.
