Young Scot penned heartbreaking letter released by husband after cervical cancer death

A brave Scots woman who passed away from cervical cancer four months after being diagnosed penned a heartbreaking letter for her husband to release after her death.

Sophy Mitchell, from Dundee, lost her battle with the terminal disease on Wednesday. She found out she had cancer after returning from a holiday in April this year.

The 31-year-old wrote the empowering letter urging people to take risks and love their lives - and asked husband Kevin to share it publicly.

The college worker encouraged people to book trips, pursue what makes them happy in life and laugh and love one another.

She also took the opportunity to reveal all the emotions she dealt with after being diagnosed and admitted she felt angry, sad and tired during her battle.

Her letter read: "If you are reading this then my amazing husband has announced my death…

"Well that’s me, I’ve went to “sleep” for good.

"I’m at peace now they say but truth be told.. I know I didn’t feel at peace! I felt anger, hurt and sadness at what I’ve left behind.

"I tried to fight and fight but I’m too tired now and just can’t do it any longer.

"Please know your body, please enjoy life, don’t moan over the wee things, book trips, take risks, do what makes you happy, laugh, love... thanks to everyone who raised money and gave me so many good memories that I’d have never been able to afford.

"If love or money could’ve saved me then I know I’d be here. My life changed OVER night. From working a job I adored one day… to being signed off the next.

"WHY ME.

"Why why why.

"Anyway rant over. I want you to all remember smiling Sophy."

Sophie had been experiencing symptoms since December 2021 and ended up in A&E in extreme pain in January.

She was told she had a bladder infection but believed something more sinister was wrong. A lump was eventually found and she was informed she had just months to live after a biopsy.

She began sharing her cancer journey to inspire others.

The brave fighter had recently fulfilled her dying wish of being on Loose Women as she enjoyed a Zoom call from her hospital bed with stars from the hit TV show.

She even received a heartfelt message from Lorraine Kelly two days ago.

She passed away at the Roxburghe House hospice on Wednesday with her husband Kevin by her side.
