Young mum who collapsed at airport is being charged £1,800 a day at Turkish hospital

Passengers at an airport rushed to help a young mum who collapsed on holiday in Turkey her friends have said. Doctors are baffled why Melissa Kinsella suffered a seizure when she arrived to fly home which caused her heart to stop.

Mum of three Melissa, who is also known as Missy has been left in a coma and her family need to find a staggering £1,800 a day for treatment. 30-year-old Melissa is in a coma, and the family said they are unable to find out if she had medical travel insurance and best friend Rebecca Dath has now set up a GoFundMe page to help with costs.

Melissa had complained on social media the day before she collapsed that she thought she may be suffering from heatstroke and after her collapse doctors told her family she had swelling on her brain and heart.

They have managed to raise £29,000 so far and they hope to bring her home - but the air ambulance will cost £42,000. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Rebecca, 35, said: “She was vomiting, felt unwell and that was the day before. When she got to the airport, she had a seizure and collapsed. That’s been it since, she has been in intensive care on life support in Turkey.” Rebecca has also said that the hospital won’t let Melissa leave when she is better, if she hasn’t paid the bill.

She added: “Her family are beside themselves. Her mum and dad are with her in Turkey but are only allowed to stay at her bedside for 10/15 minutes per day.

“Her partner Jay is at home with the children trying to be strong for them. As her friend this is the most heartbreaking situation.

“She’s such a bubbly, funny and popular person. Knowing she is fighting for her life is breaking mine and all of her friends and family’s hearts.”

Melissa had no other underlying issues and doctors told the family they will have to wait until the swelling on her brain reduces before they can carry out procedures. Describing her best friend, Rebecca said hairdresser Melissa is “very, very popular” and “well loved”.

Speaking on the gofundme page Rebecca said: “Hi everyone, once again I want to thank everyone on behalf of Melissa’s family, we need to raise as much as possible , the air ambulance is 42k to get Melissa to a hospital in the UK xxx”

Member of the public pledged their support. Lynne Toner said: “Devastating for her and her family, could happen to anyone of us ... Hope the target is reached and she is getting treatment in a uk hospital ASAP x”

Cally Jones added: “Been thinking of Melissa everyday as I witnessed this in the airport. Thinking of Missy’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

Missy was on holiday with her partner Jay Smith, his family and three children, Chloe, nine, Beau, four, and Romi, two.

Beryl Joy said: “Missy is such a beautiful soul, nothing is too much trouble, she goes out of her way to help anyone, she’s kind, she’s loving and most of all she’s a mummy to three beautiful little girls, so lets get her home to them. Please everyone donate whatever you can spare, thank you.”
